Anthony Joshua will fight the winner of Daniel Dubois vs Filip Hrgovic in September with his long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury in the works for early 2025.

Fury and Usyk meet in Saudi Arabia on Saturday to crown the heavyweight division’s first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis 25 years ago.

The two will fight in a rematch later in the year with a deal already contractually agreed between both parties, with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh confirming that must take place before the end of October.

Joshua meanwhile will watch events unfold across the division this summer and is expected to be in attendance at ringside when Fury and Usyk collide this weekend.

Following that, his focus will shift to Hrgovic vs Dubois, part of the Matchroom vs Queensberry show on 1 June with Joshua lined up to fight the winner.

The possibility of Joshua fighting the winner of Deontay Wilder vs Zhilei Zhang – who are also in action on that Matchroom vs Queensbury card – was also under consideration but has now been abandoned with plans for Wilder to fight fellow American Jared Anderson later in the year.

Joshua will return to fight at Wembley Stadium for the first time since his 2018 win over Alexander Povetkin with Alalshikh promising the Olympian will have the chance to win a third world title against the winner of Fury vs Usyk 2 in 2025.

Alalshikh confirmed there will be no option for Joshua to fight the winner of this weekend’s undisputed fight, insisting the rematch must take place first.

He told The MMA Hour: ‘It has to be the [Fury vs Usyk] rematch in October, and after that, my plan in the first quarter [of 2025] is to have Joshua fight the winner [of Fury vs Usyk 2.’

He continued: ‘We have Joshua’s fight in September, it depends on the result on 1 June, the Hrgovic fight – because now we love Wilder vs Jared Anderson on the card in Los Angeles.’

‘We are supporting boxing around the world. I just finished the card of Wembley, it will be a crazy card.’

Joshua reeled off four wins in under 12 months with wins over Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.
