Djordje Petrovic has praised Chelsea target Benjamin Sesko and feels he is ready-made for the Premier League, while he also sent a message of thanks to Mauricio Pochettino.

The west London club parted company with the Argentine coach last week and are closing in on the appointment of Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca as his replacement.

Chelsea are expected to back their new manager in the transfer market this summer and want to bring in four new additions, one of which will be a prolific frontman.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Sporting sensation Viktor Gyokeres, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford striker Ivan Toney, while RB Leipzig youngster Sesko is also believed to be on their radar.

Sesko – who is also attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester United – ended the season in stunning form, scoring or assisting in 13 of the final 16 games of the Bundesliga season, and his release clause increased to €65million (£56m) as a result.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petrovic may well see that price tag as something of a bargain, with the 24-year-old convinced Sesko would be a success in the Premier League after following his performances this season.

Asked about Sesko, who he may face off against in the Euro 2024 group stages, Serbia international Petrovic told Nogomania: ‘I know [about the rumours] and have been following him.

‘He’s having a good half-season, he’s in great scoring form.

‘I read that he’s scored in his last seven matches in a row. He seems to have gained strong momentum for the Euros.

‘He’s a forward who has everything a modern player needs. He’s tall, strong, fast and intelligent.

‘I’ve watched some of his matches. Of course he can play in the Premier League. Absolutely!

‘He has great potential and he’s been successfully proving it in recent months.’

When Petrovic returns to Chelsea after the Euros, he will have to impress incoming new manager Maresca following Pochettino’s surprise departure last week.

The Argentine had guided the team to five straight victories to close out the Premier league season, securing European football in the process, and Petrovic is sorry to see him leave – particularly after showing such faith in him.

‘He and the club decided not to continue together, we have to respect that decision,’ said the young goalkeeper.

‘Pochettino is a coach who gave me a chance and trusted me. I will be forever grateful to him and the entire coaching staff. We worked well together and I wish them all the best in their future careers.’
