Roma put Tammy Abraham up for sale with Premier League return on the cards

Roma are hoping to receive offers for Tammy Abraham after making him available for transfer this summer, with a return to the Premier League looking most likely.

The 26-year-old has been with Roma since making the move from Chelsea in 2021, but after a brilliant start things have gone downhill.

The England international had an impressive first season, scoring 17 goals in Serie A and 27 in all competitions as Roma won the UEFA Conference League under Jose Mourinho.

The following season was much less productive, with just nine goals scored in 54 appearances and this season has been ruined by an ACL injury restricting Abraham to just 10 outings, with one goal to show for his efforts.

With Mourinho dismissed midway through the season and club legend Daniele De Rossi taking over, Roma finished sixth in Serie A and are looking to make changes over the summer to improve on that in the next campaign.

Sky Sport Italia reports, via Football Italia, that Abraham is going to be a victim of those changes, with Roma putting him on the market this summer.

The Italian side paid £34m for the striker in 2021 and will be hoping to get somewhere in that region for him in the transfer window, despite his injury problems.

Abraham, who has 11 caps for England, is under contract until 2026, so Roma are not under pressure to make a cut-price deal, but they do want Abraham’s significant wages off their books as they plan a rebuild under De Rossi.

On his summer plans, De Rossi said earlier this month: ‘I will do everything I can to make this team better. Every year the coach sits down with the sporting director and the president to improve the team. Inter, who were the best this year, will do the same and will try to improve further.

‘Then there are limits, budgets to respect. We haven’t talked in detail yet. I don’t know what we can do yet, but we will certainly do something to make Roma a higher-ranking team.

‘We are better than sixth place. Roma must try to get into the top 4. Not that doing so is easy. Also because, take the two of you to your choice of the teams that are above us, three actually. Inter, Milan, Juve, Atalanta, Bologna who have been super this year. Lazio are below, Napoli, Fiorentina, many strong teams are below us.

‘But we have to work to get into the top 4. Roma have done it for many years and we have to do it again. It’s not impossible. It depends on how you play, how you build teams, how you play, how consistent you are.’
